What are laminated shims?

All shims are made to provide precision contact between parts.  Laminated shims are made of extremely thin layers of metal that have been pressure-bonded to form strong components.  Able to function in the same way as solid shims, they have the additional advantage of being peelable, layer by layer, to enable the tightest possible tolerances in your airframe.  The individual layers can be made to your precise specification, from 0.025 mm (0.001”) to 0.1mm (0.004”). They can then be peeled off as required to achieve the most precise fit on your production line.

As well as a variety of peel strengths, we can also manufacture a range of formats, depending on your specific requirements.  With our impressive capability, we can produce shims that are bonded across the whole surface, or shims that are bonded on one edge only, called edgebond shims.  Another option is a hybrid shim, which provides additional strength, as it is part solid part laminate, but still has the flexibility of micro adjustment on the assembly line. All our laminated metal shims can be tapered, detailed, or flat.
